How I Lost 62lbs With The Beyond Diet + My 3 Step Plan… … And With A Total Budget Of Less Than $50!

Hi again, and let’s continue…

My battle with obesity began even before I can remember.

All my life I had always been on the “higher side” weight-wise, but I would either choose to ignore it, or make stupid jokes like “ I keep trying to lose weight… but it keeps finding me. :P”

However…

By 2009, after the birth of my first daughter, I had slowly ballooned up to over 240 pounds (242 to be precise) and “contracted” hypertension and high blood sugar. :(

It was no more a joke. I had to do something.

I went the usual route; first with dieting (Atkins, Mediterranean, et al…) then moving to shakes and supplement powders, and even going through scammy routes such as Raspberry Ketones and other “Dr. Oz” recommended stuff!

Some things seemed to work for a few weeks (like Atkins) but maintaining them was next to impossible! (Try Atkins for a month and you’ll know what I mean! Horror!)

Just like most of us… nothing seemed to help or make results stick… so with no respite, I almost completely gave up in 2009…

Yet…

What allowed me to reclaim my health, weight AND life was…

Huh?

Kidding aside, what I mean is…

It was my nana who helped me lose 62 pounds by giving me the jolt I needed!

It was due to her that I found my really weird “combo method”that I am now using for the last 4+ years…

… that enabled me to drop over 62 pounds of ugly, unwanted fat…

… get rid of my hypertension…

… and finally feel fit, healthier and confident.

Warning 1:One of the 3 steps goes against the “current dieting norms” (… and maybe that’s why it works!)

So Here We Go… The 3 Step Plan…

First of all, let me tell you that until about 2011, I was not a nutrition and weight loss expert I am now…

Far from it actually

I was at a whopper 242lbs mother of 2 in 2009!

And I vividly remember the day I said enough is enough

That was when I was at the lowest point of my life…

The reason I am telling you all this is because you need to know how deep down the rabbit hole I went before I discovered the stuff I am going to share in just a moment…

It was 2009… I was a mother of a

beautiful baby daughterand had just quit working (as a cardiac nurse) because of “health issues”… :(

242lbs… hypertensive… high sugar… chronically dead tired… emotionally worn out… and almost bordering on a nervous breakdown…

NO confidence to take selfies… whenever someone did take a pic, I used to “ suck in” and hide my most ugly parts… (you probably might know how it can be…)

NO energy to do anything, like ever… (of course having a baby was already sapping whatever energy was left)…

NO will or mood to do ANYTHING! :(

I was mentally and emotionally… dead .

And The Worst Part Was…

All these obesity induced issues started affecting my relationship with my lil’ daughter! :’(

I used to yell at my baby for no reason, was always bitter and just stopped doing activities with her. Yep, this was really becoming a bad emotional problem.

Then…?

The inevitable…

I started buying and trying all sorts of “weight loss products” on a spree!

First like I said before, I tried dieting… (the usual suspects – Atkins/Paleo)…
… Couldn’t continue for more than 2-3 weeks.

Next, I started trying various “shakes”… shakeology, visalus, itworks, and many others… result?

Nothing except gone every month!

Infomercial products

Yeps, I also tried the “ab wheel” and ab roller thingies, late night infomercial ‘specials’… nope, everything was a total waste…

Finally… I tried the ‘pink drink’ plexus slim … the side effects were HORRIBLE…

C’mon… How Come Nothing’s Working For Me!?”

Nothing was working

… I am trying everything they recommendin the infomercials, magazines, or the fitness and health sites, even trying stuff Dr. Oz recommends! (Raspberry ketones, which is nothing but stupidity, FYI.)


So Why The Heck Is Nothing Working!?

So, when everything failed…

I COMPLETELY GAVE UP. :(

That’s it!

Forget it!

I am what I am… fine… let me just be fat… it’s just what I am gonna be forever.

Last bit of hope… crushed…

until… … ?

You guessed it!

The Day My Nana Arrived!

I can still remember the bright, sunny Denver morning when my nana visited us…

And the odd thing was…

The whole week she was with us, she ate a lot less than usual…

On a Sunday morning, at breakfast, I asked her whether she wasn’t feeling well or something? I mean why wasn’t she eating enough?

To that she said… “No pooh, I am fine, I just don’t like to eat all this junk food you people have…

I mean where’s the food in it… you people are just too lazy to cook real food these days!”

Then she picked a box of ‘ready-to-eat-oats’ and said… “This is not real food pooh, this isn’t what I eat…”

Wait a minute…

Whoaa!

She was right!

This IS NOT what she ate.

My nana, 84, was a picture of health…

  1. And she never ate “ready to eat” foods.
  2. And she never ate out of a “box”.

In fact…

There weren’t 1/10 ththe amount of “boxes” in her kitchen as mine.
There weren’t 1/10 ththe amount of “ready to eat” thingies in her kitchen as mine.

She simply ate… real food!

Suddenly a clichéd moment, a light bulb kinda moment happened!

  • Could it be this simple?
  • Could I get my health and life back by just “eating real foods” ?
  • Could I LOSE my ugly weight by eating what my nana eats?

Well, sorry, but NO…

Unfortunately just doing that doesn’t help much, I DID NOT stumble on the “holy weight loss grail”, but what that discussion sparked was determination!

If my Nana, at 84 can be in such good health, it is my duty, no, my responsibility to be there for my daughter too!

I owe it to my little princess!

And that’s what sparked me to become… Betty the super geek!

Here’s a sneak-peek of what I did during my ‘research phase’…

With all that research, studying and analyzing… I knew I needed a diet plan that would help me eat correctly, but still not restrict me so much that I would quit it.

So one year down the line…

I was still the same fat girl…

But this time, I was a fat girl with a plan …

1 And The First Step Of My “3 Step Plan”, Was None Other Than… Starting The Beyond Diet…

Back then it was called the “Diet solution program”, and was just a book.

But wait…

How I Went On The Crazy Nutrition Research Ride…

My first step with this new resolve was to read every nutrition and diet book I could get my hands on. I read and re-read the following books:

The Atkins revolution, Protein power, Body for Life, The Zone, The South Beach Diet, French Women Don’t Get Fat, The Warrior Diet, The Metabolic Diet, Volumetrics, The Obesity Myth, Health Food Junkies, An Apple a Day, What to Eat, the Omnivore’s Dilemma, Real Foods, The End of Overeating, Eat Right 4 Your Type, Good Calories Bad Calories, Food Politics, as well as various ‘underground’ books on diet and nutrition like Dan Duchaine’s Body Opus and many more…

I didn’t just read these books. I analyzed them.

If the book quoted scientific references, I sought out the reference and reviewed it in its entirety (my medical background helped here).

My goal was to dissect our entire current nutrition beliefs and to track their evolutions and origins.

On top of this, I also read and critically analyzed hundreds (not an exaggeration) of research papers, and re-read several of my old nutrition textbooks. (I have a background in medical studies)


So what did all of my studying and research uncover?

Firstly, what most people who talk about scientific research online, or in magazines do is called “data mining”, where they scan research papers looking for interesting sound bites or quotes.

Basically they try to summarize 2 to 3 years worth of scientific investigation in one short and snappy “tips” page.

It’s great reading, but it rarely gives us usable, practical advice.

Now, this is not meant as a self-serving ego-boosting statement, but rather as a testament to the importance of proper research and analysis.

  2. I am a registered nurse also but post menopausal and eating fresh fruits and veggies is getting no results. I read ifyou exercise on empty stomach and then wait 30-45 min after before you eat it will help burn calories. Also always eat protein with every meal. I also started using acacia powder for 4-8 grams of soluble fiber a day will balance blood sugar and cholesterol (LDL). Also resistance training with bands is just effective or better than weight training. But the most I can lose is around 8 lbs and can’t seem to get below 170 lbs. Hormones (estrogen) can really stop wt weight loss. Any suggestions?

  3. I love BD. I became a member in 2012 and in the first 8 months lost 30 lbs, which was my goal. Then soon after I went through a messy break up and lost all my self confidence and began emotionally eating again and just not caring about the food I put in my face and in almost 2 years i’ve gained those 30 lbs back plus about 15 more. So I’m back on the wagon, doing the 14 day supercharge right now and have already lost 6lbs in the first week. I remember how good it felt to eat the BD way and kick myself for giving it up the first time.
    So I totally agree, stick to the plan and the plan will work.
    So my question was, since I joined in 2012 I no longer have my receipt, would I still be able to get your information for the fasting and the customized workout?
